A Domain name appraisal is an estimate about the likely price of a particular Internet domain name. The appraisal of domain names is highly speculative as it is more of an opinion rather than a procedure.

I am going to list out some of the ways to do a domain appraisal on your own. Domain names with hyphen and number are not very popular among buyers. So when you buy domain names, always try to buy single words which are easy to remember. Try giving out the domain name over the phone and see if it is easier to remember the words of the domain name for people listening on the phone. The other important thing is the length of the domain name; it is less valuable if it has more than 15 characters.

It is also very important to advertise your domain-name, they more they have heard of the name, the pricier the domain is. It also helps if your domain is similar sounding to the service you provide like Business.com or Joetheplumber.com. Most of the people prefer the Top Level Domains also called as TLD’s, the ones which are favored by most people are .com followed by .org or .net, other country wide domains like .us or .co.uk are also in demand. It is not a necessity but most of the people prefer domain-names which have been developed, most of the times Splash page is enough but some people like the domains with traffic. Site Traffic by search engines is also taken into consideration during the value of the domain.

It is also very important for keywords in domain-name to rank well in search engines, you can command a higher price if it is ranked well. Last but not least, if it is a revenue generating domain, the easiest way to sell is to multiply 2.5 with the yearly revenue and you have a good price.
